Margaret Noodin

Margaret Noodin has a PhD in Literature and Linguistics, an MFA in Creative Writing and is Professor of English and American Indian Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she also serves as the Director of the Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education. She grew up in Chaska, near Minneapolis, where she spent time at St. Joan of Arc Church, the University of Minnesota, and the Minneapolis American Indian Center. She has been blessed with many mentors and teachers as she has worked in language and education, especially Jim Northrup, Collins Oakgrove, Marlene Stately, Helen Roy, and Alphonse Pitawanakwat. Her family includes people with the following names: O’Donnell, Orr, Hill, Bernard, Bean, Lavallee and Monplasir and she identifies as American, Anishinaabe, Irish, and Metis. She is the author of Bawaajimo: A Dialect of Dreams in Anishinaabe Language and Literature and Weweni and Gijigijigaaneshiinh Gikendan: What the Chickadee Knows collections of bilingual poems in Ojibwe and English.
